Happy Birthday from a fellow older human being who wakes up in the night to fight the physical discomforts of the body—the between of the body and the breathing night. I like to consider the idea that many creatives gather at those ungodly hours to wake up to teachings, like yours, of Acceptance, Grace, and whichever words we choose to bring this experience to consciousness. Thanks for sharing!!!
Happy Birthday! I am also older, and I always get up early (like 3- 5 AM) because I love the peace, and to listen to the morning birds singing. I hope you have a wonderful day!
‘Each second we live is a new and unique moment of the universe; a moment that will never be again. And what do we teach our children? We teach them that two and two is four and that Paris is the capital of France. When will we also teach them what they are? We should say to each of them: ‘Do you know what you are? You are a marvel. In all the years that have passed, there has never been another child like you. Your legs, your arms, your clever fingers, the way you move. You may be a Shakespeare, a Michelangelo, a Beethoven. You have the capacity for anything. Yes, you are a marvel. And when you grow up, can you then harm another who is, like you, a marvel? You must work- we must all work- to make the world worthy of our children.’ Pablo Casals
SCARED FOR THE CHILDREN
Billy skipped school again,
Looking like a fool again
What a little waste for
The taste of a big boy’s life.
Oh I’m scared for the children.
Computer screens and magazines
Manufactured hopes and dreams.
Playing in a concrete box
Cause Mother’s got her shows to watch.
Oh, I’m scared for the children.
This is the end of the age of the innocent
One more game before they go.
This is the end of the age of the innocent.
What will we leave them with?-
I suppose we'll never know.
Processed greens and man-made meat
Running out of things to eat
Little boys having way too much fun
Playing with a big boy’s gun.
Oh, I’m scared for the children.
And on the day the last bird dies.
There won’t be a drop from their big square eyes-
An old man with his eyes like glass
Kisses the last blade of glass.
Oh, I’m scared for the children.
No respect for anyone
Why would they after what we’ve done
What an example we have set
What a planet we have left
Let’s be here for these children
Colin Mac Rae I recently became a grandfather and I worry about the world that he'll inherit.
I think? that I received likes from my conversation with a very frightened black man in America. If not, I am sorry. I am too old to navigate through the substack but I am learning. Love your conversations between (is it Jesus, Lao Tzu, and the Buddha! Good work.
I find I’m spilling over with really creative ideas the older I become… friends say I’m simply recreating previous creations… did I mention I’m getting older🙄
Adjustment to being in the last leg of the race isn’t easy! One has to develop a new, unique strategy to get through it! I’m trying to figure it all out!
Happy Birthday! I love this time of year and I think people born in the springtime are so lucky! There are so many wonderful reminders of new life and new beginnings in spring time. I share your early morning hours , though mine is out of preference and not out of pain (usually). I just enjoy the solitude and the beginning of a new day. I hope your new year contains plenty of good surprises.

Same! LOVE that early morning hour.
Happy birthday (perhaps too late)!
Getting older is for me, too, a blessing disguised in ailment cloak.

Happy Birthday, Man!!!!! May you have many more.
I'm glad I bumped into you here. There is an undeniable light in you. Keep it glowing, sir. I admire it.
Happy Birthday. We all have much to celebrate if we are breathing and free. All the best for your next trip round the sun.

Happy Birthingday Anniversary!
I have always been a morning person and when I go to bed around 8:30-9, I hope for the night to pass quickly.
Sometime the bursas in my hips wake me from a sound sleep around 3:33 or 4:44. Love those numbers!
Best to you on your health journey.
